On March 21, 2015, police in Houston, Texas arrested 20-year-old Stephanie Guzman after confiscating a liquid from her what they believed contained codeine.
On March 25, 2015, Guzman pled guilty in Harris County Criminal District Court to possession of a controlled substance. She was sentenced to probation for three years.
In April 2015, the Houston Police crime laboratory tested the liquid and found no controlled substance. The laboratory informed the Harris County District Attorney's Conviction Review Unit which then notified Guzman's defense attorney of the test results.
On April 23, 2015, the prosecution joined the defense in a motion to vacate the conviction. The motion was granted and the prosecution dismissed the charge.
