On October 20, 2014, police in Spring, Texas arrested 21-year-old Josephine Arteaga and charged her with possession of Xanax without a prescription.

On December 4, 2014, Arteaga pled guilty in Harris County Criminal District Court to possession of a controlled substance. She was sentenced to a year of community supervision.

On February 25, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences tested the tablets seized from Arteaga and determined the pills were acetaminophen, a legal substance for which no prescription is required.

The Harris County District Attorney's Post Conviction Review Unit informed Arteaga's defense lawyer of the lab results and joined in a defense motion to vacate the conviction.

On March 24, 2015, the conviction was vacated and the charge was dismissed.
